Naming reason

In the 1920s,on the inside walls and the ceiling, Yenching University painted twelve representative places of interest on Peking university campus. In this way, it gained its present name “the University Landscape Pavilion”.

Distinguishing feature

It is a square structure with double grand roofs. The Pavilion, the rockery and the surrounding trees show off each, which is typical the classical style of traditional Chinese.

History

the University Landscape Pavilion was originally named Yiran Pavilion (In Chinese, Yifan means “wing-like”) and used to be the biggest in Minghe Garden that was built (one of the famous gardens at the time)in the early years of Emperor Qianlong’s period. It is the only remaining building of Minghe Garden after the Garden was burnt in 1860.
