燕东园

历史溯源

燕园东北方，又称“东大地”，旁为大蒋家胡同，内有三十多幢两层灰砖洋房，各房前有庭院，种着玫瑰、丁香、藤萝、玉簪等。燕大时期，外籍学者多住燕南园，中国学者多住燕东园，如吴雷川、许地山、邓之诚、郭绍虞、陆侃如、冯沅君、顾颉刚等。六、七十年代以来在园北又开辟有大面积教职工宿舍区。

文物特色

如果说燕园的亭台楼阁，是画栋雕梁的王府般格局，那燕东园中，花木扶疏、门窗幽静的灰砖小洋楼，就可以说是美国城郊庭院房舍的模式了。

岁月变迁

现在的燕东园社区是北京大学教职员工的家属区，面积8.8公顷。有一片平房区，有2个公共场所。有楼房19座其中有一座是人才楼，还有12座小洋楼。

Distinguishing feature

Unlike the royal style of the office buildings and teaching buildings, architectures in Yan Dong Garden used mainly grey bricks and looks like houses in American suburbs.

History

YanDong Garden, formerly known as East Land, is a yard with more than thirty houses. Among the houses are rose, lilac, wisteria and hosta, which make it.a mini park. During the Yenching University period, YanNan Garden is the apartment for foreign scholars, while YanDong Garden is for domestic scholars including Wu Leichuan, Xu Dishan, Deng Zhicheng, Guo Shaoyu, Lu kairu, Feng Ruanjun and Gu Jigang. Since the 1960s, Staff quarters were built in the north of YanDong Garden.
